Side Hustles for Displaced Massage Therapists

A Village of Resources· Fresh Out Of Massage School· Kids and Careers· Running A Massage Therapy Practice

In this Post: COVID-19 has really done a number on the current employment rate for massage therapists. Thanks a bunch Coronavirus. In this post we brainstorm side hustles for displaced massage therapists. Hopefully one of these options will resonate with you!

Making Money When Out of Massage Work

Right now, massage therapists and so many others in the service industry are freaking out! Myself included. This is a scary, scary time. We don’t know what will happen in the next few weeks, months, or even years.

The economic ramifications from our current crisis could have long-reaching impacts on our ability to work, and our client’s ability to afford massage once we are in recovery.

In addition to cutting out unnecessary expenses, negotiating with landlords, and getting those freezers stocked, now might be a good time to look into side hustles!

Instead of twiddling your thumbs and stressing about the unknowns, step outside of your comfort zone and check out one of these employment options.

Side Hustles for Displaced Massage Therapists

Think about your skillsets. What type of work did you do before becoming a massage therapist? What type of work have you thought might be interesting in the future? The more we can be open to possibility, the more that will present itself!

Virtual Assistant

Many entrepreneurs and online businesses don’t have the money it takes to hire a full-time employee. But they do have work they could use help with. This is where the demand for a virtual assistant or VA comes in. Some tasks this might include are writing newsletters, researching articles, social media management, bookkeeping, and a whole slew of other things.

Check out Fiverr

I just recently used Fiverr to hire someone to do a voice-over for the podcast I am currently working towards launching.

That’s right, someone got paid to record themselves speaking.

For those of you who have never heard of Fiverr, it is a website where people with various skills come to get hired on a project by project basis. People search through profiles to find the person who has the abilities and price that meets their needs.

There is a wide range of job categories including a spiritual healing category. Spend some time on this site, it might give you some great ideas during your current displacement!

Amazon

Amazon is currently hiring, with no experience necessary. They are looking to fill various positions ranging from order fulfillment to customer service. This may not be your forever spot, but I gotta say I don’t think anything could take down this giant. Talk about some security!

Local Farms

There has never been more of a demand for local food than now. Many local farms are hiring drivers to deliver food as well as people to help fill orders. Reach out to the local farms in your area to see if you can help fill their temporary need.

Grocery Stores

Here is another place where there has never been more of a temporary need. Grocery stores are hiring like crazy right now!

Create a course

Now that you are home-bound for a while. Have you ever thought about creating a course?

  • It might be a self-care course for your massage clients.
  • It could be a course on how to can vegetables.
  • Or maybe it’s a massage technique that you want the massage community to know about.

Whatever special info you got inside that noggin, now is a great time to share it with the world. You have time. Get after it!

Write a Book

Have you been talking about wanting to write a book forever? Just like creating a course, now could be the time!

While this isn’t going to mean instant income, it could give you some focus during this time of unknowns.

Distance Reiki Healing

The world needs healing more than ever right now. If you are a Reiki practitioner, consider offering distance consult. If you already have a website, you can start offering it immediately! Or, you could market this service on Fiverr.

Self-Care Membership

Stay connected with your clients by offering a self-care membership program. A place where you can offer suggestions to their needs and hold them accountable to follow through with these suggestions. You could chat with them over Facebook live, or on a Zoom call.

I know this may seem a little outside the box, but now is when those brainstorming skills come in handy! Let the creative juices flow, our clients still need us, even if it is from afar.

Encourage Your Clients to Purchase Gift Certificates

Your clients can still support you even if they can’t currently see you. Share the post: How to Support Your Massage Therapist During COVID-19 Crisis on your social media feed to encourage your clients to think of you during this time of unknowns.

I know it isn’t easy going through all of this right now. The thought that we may not be able to get back to massaging for a while is heartbreaking! Although the reality is that it may be a bit before things get back to normal. Therefore, it may be prudent or even necessary to start looking into other options for the time being.
